Excerpt #1 Your Chains Don't Bind Me: Draft One
Chapter Seven. Wings
“Mom…” I say again as she welcomes me with open arms. I hesitate for a moment, unsure if I want to feel her arms wrap around me. Maybe this is all a dream, maybe I can wake up after closing my eyes and I’d be back in my room at home in Chico. These thoughts race through my head as I close my eyes and try to wake myself up from this horrible nightmare. But when I open my eyes, I am still standing in the middle of the golden meadow with Nathaniel who is now pure as snow standing behind me and my mother who is now an angel standing in front of me, giving me a warm smile and her arms were still waiting for my embrace. I feel numb. Nathaniel’s hand intertwines with my right hand, but I can’t feel his usual warmth. My mom stands there shining brightly with a welcoming smile on her face.
